Unpacked: "The Enemy-Making Process"

Sam Keen Helps Us Understand What Trump Is Doing

Last week, I published an essay on these concepts.

Today, I’m back with an extended video clip from “Coffee on the Porch,” where I use the same images in visual storytelling about “The Enemy Making Process.”

I’m grateful to Sam Keen’s book “Faces of the Enemy: Reflections of the Hostile Imagination.” Hope it’s helpful to you in these troubled times.

Summary:

  1. We fail to see our own faults and flaws.

  2. We project our own fears onto “The Other”

  3. “The Other” first becomes an “Animal”

  4. “The Animal” then becomes a “Devil” (or, enemy of God)

  5. And finally, “Enemies of God,” because they are “demonic” can (and should) be freely killed, as a way to save society and please God.

My own Christian faith calls me to the exact opposite of this…to instead name the process, so that my faith in God can help me overcome it, through seeing all humans as flawed Children of God.

But in our world today, Christian Nationalism subverts the true message of Jesus, and uses it for Facists and “Enemy-Making” ends.

Update!
Even since this morning, I’ve been made aware of even more troubling propaganda that our own Homeland Security Department is using….propaganda with clear White Supremacist roots.

A friend who saw the original Coffee on the Porch broadcast this morning, sent me this":

Here’s an excerpt from the disturbing book, “Which way, American man?”

Here’s my own essay on enemy-making from last week:

How Trump Makes "Enemies of God" Within Our Nation

How Trump Makes "Enemies of God" Within Our Nation

If I had one book I could force everyone to read it would be Sam Keen’s “Faces of the Enemy.”

This is a deeply troubling time for any American who believes in the hope of true multiracial Democracy, and any Christian who seeks to reject Christian Nationalism.

I hope this video and information will be helpful to you all….EF
